Inanda Seminary was founded by American missionaries in 1869. It has aproud history of 141 years of educating thousands of black SouthAfrican women who have gone into the world exemplifying the school’smotto of Shine where you are.Missionaries continue to serve Inanda Seminary today through GlobalMinistries and the United Congregational Church of South Africa.

The first Principal of the school was Mary Kelly Edwards, an American missionary, appointed by the American Board to open the first high school for African girls. The current Principal is Mrs Judy Tate.

Inanda Seminary is an independent school privately governed by a board of 19 governors. It has Section 21 status and is a registered Non-Profit Organisation.
