The Changing of the Guard

SHINE, Members! It's the dawn of a new era!

Phinda MagwazaWe had a very successful Special AGM.  We elected Phinda Magwaza '96 as the new Chairperson of ISAA for the next three years.

She is a Durban-based marketing professional. She promises to lead the charge to guard our school's legacy and to grow our fledgling association into a force to be reckoned with. Her vision is that when IS turns 160 years old in 2029, the school will be full to capacity and so popular that we will be chasing new applicants away!  Let us all help to make that vision a reality. PLEASE, RECRUIT, recruit, recruit from ALL the provinces, Swaziland, Botswana, etc.!

Sizilibel'uba sizalwa ngobani! We are the children of strong willed pioneers such as Mah Edwards.  Our school has much to offer: a top notch education at an affordable fee. One of our unique selling points is that our learners come out knowing isiZulu fluently (an indigenous African language that is a crucial part of our heritage), unlike in the historically white schools. Let the world know!

When there are enough learners paying fees, IS does NOT experience this excruciating financial strain it is currently experiencing: the catering company gets paid promptly, the hard working staff who produce such steller results and maintain the manicured grounds get the basic salaries and bonuses they deserve.  Currently, our teachers earn less than those in government schools, and so more and more of them are resigning.  We ALL have a responsibility to work with Phinda and the school to reverse this trend.

There's a LOT of work to be done, but I have no doubt that with all of us supporting her, Phinda will succeed.
