Gugu Catherine Helen Khumalo (Nee’ Mohlakoane)
Gugu Khumalo is a Science Education Specialist
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Science Education from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Former Durban Westville);
- B.Sc Degree (Majored in Chemistry and Comparative Biology and a Minor in Physics); and Post Graduate Diploma in Education, both from the University of Botswana.
In education: She has served for 40 years in the education sector as a science education specialist, a lecturer and a teacher, within the fields of Mathematics and Science. She also served as a Deputy Director for Sciences, for 10 years, in the KwaZulu Natal Department of Education Head Office.
Science Curriculum Developer: She headed a team that developed the new Life Sciences curriculum for the country (Implemented in 2006). She developed a science curriculum for the previous Natal College of Education. She also developed the Botswana Junior Secondary School Science Curriculum.
Science Books Author: She is an author of 10 published secondary school science textbooks – 4 published by Heinemann Publishers, United Kingdom and 6 published by Shooter and Shuter Publishers, South Africa.
Leadership Roles and Associations: She held and/or holds the following positions:
- Nozala Trust (Chairperson), MUSA Trust (Chairperson), Inanda Seminary Board of Governors (Chairperson), LIV Village School Board (Member), Department of Higher Education and Training TVET Colleges Board (Council Member), Inanda Seminary Alumni Association (Deputy Chairperson), Thomas Moore School Board (x-Member), Inanda Seminary Head Prefect (1970), Chemical Society of Botswana (x-Member).
Private Sector: She is Owner and Managing Director of Sinoza Investments Holdings (a residential property development company), Shareholder of Ayavuna Women's Investments; and also serves as director and shareholder in a number of other private companies.
