Thembisa Kakaza

I am a qualified Auditor with an Honours Degree in Accounting and Auditing, Advanced Taxation Certificate and a Masters degree in Business Administration.
I have strong technical skills with 20 years’ experience leading and managing Internal and External Audit Units. I have an excellent track record as an auditor and I possess a great deal of experience in reviewing and providing assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of Governance, Risk Management and Systems of Internal Control. I completed articles with Coopers & Lybrand Theron Du Toit in 1997. I then proceeded to work in the auditing environment with large audit firms servicing mainly private entities and large parastatals. I have vast experience in public sector auditing.
I am currently the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) of the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH), a position I have held for 12 years. I took on the job of CAE at the ECDoH in 2006 when the function was non-compliant with quality standards governing the profession. In this space, I have moved it from a status of non-compliance to obtaining the highest level of compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors.
As Chief Audit Executive responsible for the management of the business and financial risks of the organization, I have similarly, overseen a turnaround of the ECDoH where it consistently received unfavourable audit results from the External Auditors to a position where the outcomes have shown significant improvement.
As a General Manager, I similarly possess vast experience working at the strategic level reviewing and advising on critical risks of the organisation; reporting internally to the Head of Department and externally to the Audit & Risk Committees. I am open-minded and eager to be challenged to greater heights to ensure continuous development and enhancement of my skills.
